Autodesk’s new Tinkerplay is a free app that gives users the ability to create and customize 3D figures. For that the users have access to a library of modifications. And the best part? These characters can then be printed using a 3D printer. The app is available for Android users. But how good is this app really?
Installation and Setup:
As the App is available in the Google Play store for android devices, downloading it is easy. As it is a rather large App it is recommended to only use the Wireless Network for the download. Once the app is downloaded and installed, you will be asked to provide a birth date before being allowed to enter the app. There really isn’t anything to setup. You can start creating your figures right away. You can decide to use the template that is provide by Tinkerplay to start with, or you can choose to start from scratch.
Interface:
The interface is very easy to use. The main menu for the figure is located in the right top corner and once you touch it, it increases in size, so that the different parts have a better visibility. From there you can simply drag the different parts you want to attach to your figure (such as head, torso or feet) into the middle. Then you can look at it from different angles or zoom and rotate. Even the different pieces can be moved and rotated. They can also be modified, various textures are available for use. The menu for that is in the lower right corner.
3D printing:
Once you are done with your figure, you can use the print option. You will be shown how many runs are needed and how long it will take. You can change the size and customize which parts of the figure you want to have printed. If you press the green print button, you will get a download link for your figure. This file you can then use on your own 3D printer or find a service online that does the work for you.

Tinkerplay is great fun to use. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a 3D printer, just creating different figures and taking pictures of them is a blast. Usually 3D figures can only be created by using some very complicated and expensive software. This app is not only easy to use, it is also free.
